http://bit.ly/9rvzB8 Here's a letter posted today to Ian duncan Smith, Secretary of State Department of Work & Pensions Dear Mr Duncan-Smith You have been reported in the press in connection with some extraordinary claims regarding your Department's intentions toward the sick, disabled and unemployed. The tone coming across is one of verbal attacks on the sick and disabled in wherein we are described as "scroungers" or "workshy", particularly in Mr Chris Grayling's outrageous attack in the Daily Mail on 18th June in which he referred to all 2.5 million 'sickness benefit' claimants as "workshy". I have e-mailed Mr Grayling about his conduct but after several days am still waiting for the courtesy of a reply. So-called scroungers are rare. Who in their right mind would prefer £1.64 per hour sickness benefit (£65.45 per week / 40 hours - a standard working week) to a livable wage and the benefits of a fulfilling job? Fraud on 'sickness benefits' is said to be running at one fraudster in 200 claims or 0.5% - virtually nil statistically. On the other hand, fraud, or at least dubious expenses practises by M.P.s runs considerably higher. The figures are complex and so it's hard to place the highest figure for 'M.P. fraud' but if you only take some of the more notorious* or ridiculous* ones we get 2.76% (650 M.P.s / 18* = 2.76%. These 18 include duck island, moat draining, pornography, tennis court, swimming pool, moles, manure, shrubs, hanging baskets. They also include some unforgivable, serious fraud. Ms Kirkbride and her husband each flipping the opposite property, Mr Chaytor and 3 others who are trying to worm their way out of criminal prosecution for charges including claiming for a mortgage which never existed! and for a mortgage which had actually been paid off! Therefore, please don't have the gall to vilify poor, mostly honest people. You are also reported as standing ready to abolish all sickness benefit by 2014. This in itself could be regarded as fraudulent - people's taxes are collected upon the lie that welfare benefit will be there for them should they ever need it. Benefits are not there for those who need it, at least not as social security laws imply they are. In the case of ESA sickness benefit, IB and DLA most of the claimants are under the continuing care of an experienced, fully-qualified General Practitioner who has studied medicine for 5 years or more. Your department has a £500 Million 7 year contract with an avid, incompetent and morally dubious company called Atos Healthcare, which has a revenue of £5 Billion globally. This company has been working to a government target of pushing 1 million people off sickness benefit. You will note that the target is not to identify those most in need of temporary help it's just to find one million victims to be denied benefit unfairly. Despite it's name, Atos is not a 'Healthcare' company. It is an IT company which has bolted-on nurses, physiotherapists and mercenary doctors. Details of the bonuses or salaries of these 'professionals' are being kept secret as 'commercially sensitive' despite Freedom Of Information requests. Abuses of sick patients include refusal to allow a patient to take notes, delaying reimbursement of travel expenses, forcing (compulsory) attendance on some least able to travel, refusal to verify facts with G.P.s, refusal to look at medical documentation, dubious 'verdicts', lack of care, unsuitable facilities, the telling of lies to DWP about appointments and many other abuses.
