Description
Sir William Hillary the the Lifeboat volunteers who went to the the aid of the stricken St George in 1830 are remembered in this memorial on Douglas Promenade. The fierce storm is captured along with the tremendous effort of the crew as they pull on their oars. The crew of 22 were rescued. The spirit of sacrificial voluntary service lives on in the RNLI.
